Conducting

 Sandy studied conducting while at college and began conducting brass bands in the late 1980’s. 

He has worked with bands at the very highest level such as The Brighouse and Rastrick Band,  Grimethorpe Colliery Band and The Fairey Band as well as many bands through all five sections of the grading system.

His philosophy of band training is firmly based on exposing players to the best quality music available, whether in original compositions or arrangements.

He has also worked collaboratively as a conductor and arranger with artists from wider genres such as The Unthanks folk group, jazz trumpeter Matt Halsall, electronic keyboard artist and vocalist Hannah Peel, folk Singer Kate Rusby and folk musician John Watterson.
