Arranging

Sandy is a prolific arranger for brass having had his work recorded and performed by all of the leading UK bands for many years.

One of his first arrangements, Stephen Sondheim's "Send In The Clowns" featuring himself as flugelhorn soloist, was commercially recorded by his band The Whitburn Band when he was 16 years old.

His arrangements have featured in many prize-winning programmes at leading entertainment contests and cover an eclectic range of styles.

He continues to work extensively for the Obrasso music publishing company in Switzerland producing arrangements for brass band, brass ensemble and solo instruments with piano accompaniment.

His most ambitious arrangement to date is a complete version of Mike Oldfield's' "Tubular Bells". More information on this can be found on the "Tubular Brass" tab on this website.

Sandy was the brass orchestrator for the “Pandemonium” and Olympic Anthem sections of the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics and has worked as both arranger and conductor on collaborative projects with artists such as folk group The Unthanks, jazz trumpeter Matt Halsall, folk singer Kate Rusby, singer-songwriter and synthesizer player Hannah Peel and folk musician John Watterson.

He has lectured on brass band scoring, arranging and the history and repertoire of the brass band at Huddersfield University and continues to accept commissions for new pieces when time permits.
